We’ve heard some hilarious NFL draft stories from prospects and teams over the years, but new San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster might have the best one of the year so far.
During his rookie press conference Friday afternoon, Foster told the media he was on the phone with the New Orleans Saints when 49ers general manager John Lynch called. The Saints were reportedly prepared to draft Foster with the final pick of the first round, but the 49ers jumped ahead to snatch him up.

A consensus top-10 talent, Foster was projected to be a high draft pick before injury concerns and a diluted urine sample from his combine drug test made his stock fall. With extra pick from their earlier trade at the top of the draft, the 49ers didn’t hesitate to jump ahead of the Saints to draft a difference-maker for the middle of their defense.
